Contribute to halving number of undernourished children in India by 2015 through multi-sectoral partnerships

Our Mission

To Triumph over ‘Child Malnutrition’ through partnerships

Our Vision

Effective multi-sectoral partnerships between Government, Corporate and Civil Society can co-create solutions for addressing the complex problem of child undernutrition

About Bhavishya Alliance

Bhavishya Alliance is an alliance of multisectoral partners that facilitates, works through its partners and adds value to the efforts of government agencies, organizations and individuals in reducing child malnutrition. It is neither a funding nor an implementing organization. Bhavishya Alliance intends to showcase the outcomes of efforts of its partners by facilitating, documenting and disseminating the learning and results for replication and scale up.

BA’s value addition comes through in bringing partners together on focused interventions that:

(a) Improve systems & practices for bridging gaps service delivery,
(b) Enhance capacity of stakeholders to meet the objectives & achieve desired outputs, and
(c) Trigger positive responsiveness / behaviours of communities

BA’s work revolves around the presumption that its efforts may or may not change the situation entirely in a particular geography, but the learning shall showcase concrete models that can influence wider change.

The Genesis of Bhavishya Alliance:

Bhavishya Alliance found its genesis in the founding of the Partnership for Child Nutrition (PCN), which was convened by the Synergos Institute, UNICEF and Unilever. The partnership in India is formed between multiple stake-holders namely Hindustan Unilever, HDFC, ICICI, the TATA Group, the State Health & Nutrition Mission, ICDS, Health departments, and NGOs. This effort is supported by Partnership for Child Nutrition.'Bhavishya' means future in Sanskrit, this alliance was formed to take care of the mother and the child of the future. The process of giving birth is rarely simple. It comes with both profound joys and towering anxieties. While preceded by many years of work by many people, the Bhavishya Alliance was born and started to take its first steps during 2006. Appropriately enough, this period of creation was full of ups and downs, moments of happiness and sadness, challenges and breakthroughs.  Upon formation of Bhavishya Alliance in 2006, Maharashtra Change Lab was convened over a period of three months in April, May and June 2006, The Change Lab applied the U-Process with approximately 30 government, business, and civil society leaders to work with the Alliance’s Executive Committee and Champions to co-create solutions for Child Malnutrition in India. Since then, Bhavishya Alliance has gone through various iterative processes in defining activities, roles to and getting consensual involvement among partners and evolving few pilots for replication. The diversity of stakeholders affecting the health and nutrition of children are vast, ranging from young mothers and siblings, all the way through to governmental and non-governmental functionaries at village, district and state levels to nutritionists and food manufacturers. The nature of the situation presents immense challenges not only in technical or political spheres but also the social and communal. Establishing partnerships of trust between these stakeholders, who more often than not come from extremely different realities, is a highly complex task. Hence, Bhavishya Alliance is extremely ambitious, complex, messy and fraught with risk. However, commitment of partners to this work stems from a need to see children healthy and happy then the risks are simply issues we must learn to navigate in the course of life.

:The U-Process, co developed by Joseph Jaworski and Otto Scharmer, at the MIT, is a social technology for addressing highly complex challenges – for solving complex problems or realizing complex opportunities. It is an innovation process, a theory, a set of practices, and a language for producing extraordinary breakthroughs within and across the worlds of business, government, and civil society. In all its simplicity, U process is an articulation of coping skills in any real life situation, a process which clears our vision or insight so that we are able to see and move ahead to create/ regenerate ideologically and ultimately transform into action. It encompasses three phases - the sensing, the presencing and the realizing phases. Through these three phases we develop seven capacities so that we are able to create or regenerate at the end of the realizing phase.
